As a rule of thumb, the more contact pins there are, the greater the inherent friction, which creates an immediate minimum amount of force that the breakaway connector design must be sure to account for and overcome. Too little force could lead to overly frequent unmating, and too much force could contribute to bodily injury or equipment damage. When specifying breakaway connectors, design engineers should first identify the number of pins needed in order to calculate the desired amount of force needed to successfully unmate the connector. Breakaway connectors, which are also known as quick-release or quick-disconnect connectors, are often employed in applications including aviation helmets and headsets that attached to cockpit consoles with cables, mobile medical monitoring equipment attached to patients, and unmanned vehicles designed to release payloads in order to prevent cord entanglement, snags, and pulls from hindering or harming the people and equipment they’re attached to. However, in many applications there is a need for connectors that are engineered to hold tight up to a predetermined point and then, when that force is reached, smoothly and cleanly let go. Mechanically secured connectors typically employ push-pull, lever-actuated, partial-turn, or other manual locking mechanisms that are designed to release only with specific user intervention initiated directly at the connector interface and are otherwise engineered to hold tight - sometimes withstanding a pull force of dozens or even hundreds of pounds. In a surgical setting, for instance, mechanically secured connectors can ensure that an accidentally snagged cable doesn’t lose power in the middle of a procedure. Typically, we want connectors to be stronger than the weight of the device or the limits of the cable holding them together. Breakaway connectors can quickly disconnect to protect people and equipment, yet still provide the same pin and housing durability as their mechanically secured counterparts.īy Steven Lassen, Product Applications Engineer, and Julie Carlson, Marketing Communications, LEMO Breakaway connectorīreakaway connectors break the rules of device design that expect electronic connectors to make a secure attachment - whether between a cable and a device or two cables to each other.

Been following your excellent work with Django for many years. Hi Simon, thanks so much for taking the time. Some projects are a better fit for a database than a spreadsheet, and SQLite is a /really/ good (often underestimated) database. Writing plugins for Datasette is pretty easy, and there are over 100 now: - so if it doesn't do something you need, you can add that feature independently of the core projectĥ. This is a core concept in Datasette: the ability to publish your data online so other people can explore and interact with it.Ĥ. Writing to a SQLite file is usually much easier in comparisonģ. Building tools in other languages that interoperate with an Excel spreadsheet - a web crawler that updates it constantly over time for example - is possible but in my experience pretty hard. Datasette is a great tool for when your data is too big for Excel but not so big that you need a data warehouse - think 100MB to 10GB rangeĢ. so it's ironic that I've ended up myself focusing on something that falls into that bucket!ġ. When I've talked to startups in the past I've always warned them to be careful about accidentallyīuilding a product which competes with a potential customer's existing good Excel spreadsheet. As the underlying technology is SQLite, it can handle large datasets without problem. This has allowed me to offer alternatives reports by just creating a new view into the data. With Datasette, after I have completed an analysis, I can dump as much data as I want into some (fairly wide) tables, give a three minute tutorial (This is like a web version of Excel, and this is how you filter rows), and leave them to explore. Without dedicated infrastructure, sharing data bigger than an Excel file can require quite a bit of work, requiring building some kind of custom query/search/visualization mechanism. Instead, I have used Datasette as a way to distribute data to less technical groups with a minimum of fuss. However, the plug-in system does dramatically change this: check out Simon’s example with the train announcement audio clips or any of the mapping examples. The base experience is more-or-less what you can get from DBeaver. I do not think Datasette has much to offer the savvy analyst. I never found myself doing that with MySQL or PostgreSQL. In a given day I might casually create dozens of new databases, then throw away most of them. My favourite thing about working with SQLite is that the overhead of new database creation is equivalent to the overhead of creating a file. See also the baked data pattern where I talk about this kind of deployment in a lot of detail: įor ad-hoc data analysis - assuming you already know your way around PostgreSQL - your pgAdmin in Docker solution is hard to beat. My site (and many other sites I run) is deployed like that, using GitHub Actions. It can cost pennies per month depending on database size and traffic. It can deploy databases directly to Cloud Run, Heroku, Fly and Vercel. NotesV7.storedata has been taken from a system running Mac OS Catalina. One big advantage is in publishing data online: that as one of Datasette's key original features, and it's something I use constantly:ĭatasette publish vercel til.db -app simon-tils The only exception: i am using pyenv (=> pyenv shell 3.7.9) instead of python3. Write Essays For Money Online - Earn Money Off Your Writing Skills By Writing Essays Online While Lake Somerville is operated by the Brazos River Authority, the US Army Corps of Engineers (COE) built 7 parks on the lake shore, including one that is leased to the City of Somerville, two others leased to Texas Parks and Wildlife, and two more that they are leasing to private operators. The dam was completed in 1967 and the new reservoir was dedicated in 1968. In an effort to control the flooding, construction of the Somerville Dam began in 1962. Between 19 (46 years), residents here experienced significant flooding 43 times. Somerville Lake (or as we've always called it: Lake Somerville) was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers in response to consistent flooding in the Brazos River Valley. Looking Out Over Lake Somerville The History of Lake Somerville: we still had sticker burrs in our campsite, although luckily, mostly soft ones. The staff treats the grass in the actual campsites with weed killer here, probably in an effort to keep the sticker burrs out of the campsites. we had great views and plenty of shade without having to run the power cord and waterhose underneath the RV. But we decided against it when we realized the shade tree would block our awning. We thought about pulling in instead of backing into the site so we would have a water view out the windshield. Site 91 also had a shade tree on our driver side that was a big help in keeping cool. Since most folks reserve waterfront campsites, we only had neighbors on either side of us for one or two nights during our week-long stay. We also had a picnic table, fire pit, lantern hook and BBQ grill. Our campsite (and all of the currently open RV sites in Rocky Creek Park) had 20/30/50 amp electricity and water hookups. The sunrises over the lake were worth getting up early for and, again, we had a perfect view of the sunrise on most mornings. For most of the week, we had a clear view of the water, since even during the summer, there weren't many campers there during the week. It sits up on a bit of a hill overlooking the lake (with another row of lakeside camping between us and the water). This was a HUGE site that could fit any size rig. Saturday was the only day that all of the campsites in our loop filled up. And, with fewer campsites open, the park had very light traffic and was super quiet for most of the week. Perhaps because of fewer people, the deer were very active here, and fun to watch. While it was a bit odd, camping in a park that was less than 50% open, it was also very relaxing. The boat ramp and courtesy dock in the peninsula next to the open tent camping loop were also open. Also closed due to flood damage: one of the park's two boat ramps, the amphitheater, playground, and restrooms in the closed areas.Īll of the hiking trails were open and well-maintained. So we weren't really sure what to expect.ĭuring our visit in June 2020, 68 of the park's 189 campsites were open, 121 were closed. At the time of our visit, the park had recently reopened, at least in part, following flood damage in the previous year. Rocky Creek Park is one of two current COE operated parks on the shores of Somerville Lake. So it's a bit ironic that our first COE park visit was at Rocky Creek Park on Lake Somerville. But every time we have a reservation, a storm comes through and floods the park, canceling our reservation. We've heard so many great things about them, and we've booked a lot of reservations to visit different COE parks. For years, we have tried to camp at Corps of Engineers (COE) parks. Double-click the Photos library to open it.Now, starting with the smallest Photos library and working up in size, follow these steps for each library you want to merge: If you haven’t previously used iCloud Photos, go to System Preferences > iCloud and click the Options button next to Photo. Plus, it will probably download the entire cloud-based collection of photos to each library whose photos you want to merge, so you may need a lot of local disk space too. If you haven’t already started using it, it could take a week or more to upload many thousands of photos. More problematic is that the iCloud Photos way of merging will be very slow. iCloud Photos is a good service, so it’s likely worth paying for anyway. Almost everyone will have to pay for additional storage space ($0.99 per month for 50 GB, $2.99 for 200 GB, or $9.99 for 2 TB) for at least the month in which you’re doing the merge. On the downside, using iCloud Photos almost certainly won’t be free unless you have so few photos that the combined library will fit within the free 5 GB of iCloud space Apple gives everyone. It also retains all the metadata surrounding your photos-titles, keywords, albums, facial recognition, projects, and more. The trick is that whenever you designate a library as your System Photo Library, Photos automatically uploads all images that aren’t already present, adding them to the photos already in iCloud Photos. Merge through iCloud PhotosĪpple’s iCloud Photos service offers the best solution for merging libraries. You have three options: merging through iCloud Photos, using the PowerPhotos utility, and merging by exporting and importing. Unfortunately, the process is slow, can require a lot of disk space, and may result in the loss of some metadata. If you struggle with multiple Photos libraries, never fear-you can merge them. But too much separation is annoying-you have to keep switching between libraries, and it’s easy to import new photos into the wrong one. For instance, a real estate agent might want to keep personal photos separate from house photos taken for work. That’s good when photos need to be kept completely separate. Clicking on a deal? He ruled Orzammar and established that the warrior caste is in service to the king during times of war. Another Paragon king is Garal Orseck, who lived in ancient times and was named Paragon by Endrin Stonehammer. There is debate among scholars whether Stonehammer or Orseck decided to make Orzammar the dwarven capital. Endrin Stonehammer also served as a King and was named a Paragon on his deathbed. There is also Garen Orrick, a king, and Paragon that ruled in the Exalted Age. He believed his son, Tethras, killed his sister, so he banished him to the Deep Roads. However, it was later revealed that Carta murdered her. Stricken with guilt, he changed the family name to Tethras. This is in relation to Varric Tethras, though the house was eventually banished to the surface for fixing Proving matches.Ī casteless dwarf became both Paragon and king as well. He was Gherlen the Blood-Risen and went to the surface for time to make a name and then came back to Orzammar. Outside of warriors, smiths, and kings, there are still many Paragons that range from inventors to authors. In terms of artists, Ebryan became a Paragon for writing popular children's books in the Exalted Age. He wrote Songs That Only Nugs Can Hear and H ow the Deepstalker Came to Be. There is also Paragon Ortan, who composed the Seven Brothers and the Ortanic Symphony, which is known as a grand epic. There is also a funny easter egg of Paragon Suess, who lived in the Glory Age and was known for his rhyming skills.Īmong Paragons are also builders, like Hekkat, who founded the system to build the massive structures Thaigs are known for. One Paragon even got his title by discovering that nugs are edible. If the Dragon Age: Origins Warden is of dwarven origin, then they become a Paragon for their part in ending the Fifth Blight. There is evidence of Paragons long forgotten as well. For example, there is evidence of a child Paragon that is memorialized at Caridin's Cross, but it was vandalized by darkspawn. Along with the child, there is a Paragon named Erahel who is evidenced to have died at Caridin's Cross. We heard 4 different versions of "Sweet Home Alabma", 3 different versions of "Talk Dirty To Me" and so much more from his catalog of hits and the rock n roll songbook. Bret and his band entertained us with the help of Toby Keith, Joe Nichols, Members of Rascall Flatts and Montgomery Gentry and more. I got there nice and early and managed to be right at the stage. Bret announced a special show at The Stage in Music City and I was not going to miss it. There was an incredible night after the CMT Flameworthy Awards in 2004. Sure it was a concert, but I always felt he kept playing around town because it was a night to jam with his friends and hang with an adoring crowd. When I lived in Nashville, I was very fortunate that he seemed to play there quite often. His photographs of women-including portraits of X’s female singer, Exene Cervenka, as well as anonymous, enthusiastic fans-present them as more than a subgroup within punk, but as vital members of the movement.Honestly, I have lost count of how many times I have seen Bret live. Jocoy’s book of punk photos, We’re Desperate, is in many ways a tribute to the women of punk: Its title, for instance, is derived from a 1981 track by X, the electric LA band co-fronted by a woman. His images, mostly solo shots taken in and around music venues, read like baseball cards of punk rock’s MVPs or a pictorial document of the era’s most innovative fashion. His snapshots of San Francisco and LA punks capture a lighthearted energy that stands in contrast to the hard-edged grit of the New York and U.K. After he dropped out, he spent his days working at a copy store and his nights hauling his camera to punk shows to photograph musicians and fans alike. Jocoy became involved in the budding California punk scene as a student at UC Santa Cruz in the 1970s. Prior to the publication of his 2002 photo book, Jim Jocoy had hardly picked up his camera in 20-plus years. It’s clear that Elterman was there through it all, documenting the Runaways from their humble beginnings in LA’s suburbs to their packed gigs at the Whiskey A Go Go. Yet Elterman’s photos of her and her bandmates aren’t just about their grit-there’s also an alluring softness captured in their expressions. With her black eye makeup and black leather jacket decked out in safety pins and badges, Jett stands in stark contrast to the glitz of Hollywood. This duality comes across most distinctly in his photos of Joan Jett and the Runaways. Like the protagonist in Almost Famous, Elterman started out as a teenager with a passion for music, straddling the line between professional and fan, never quite revealing to his subject which role he was inhabiting in any given moment. Though the photos often have the feeling of paparazzi snaps or publicity shoots, the real power lies in their intimacy. From Sunset Boulevard to the Santa Monica Pier, Elterman used the sunny backdrop of his native Southern California as the setting for his snapshots of some of the era’s most recognizable rock and pop stars. Here are a few who saw it all.īrad Elterman’s photos capture the utopian glamour of the West Coast’s scene in the 1970s and ’80s. Amid the sea of leather jackets and tight pants, the punk aesthetic was captured by daring photographers along for the ride. In the punk scene of the 1970s and ’80s, both onstage and off, style was just as important as which bands you went to see. Aside from the musicians, female fans also found that punk’s freedom of expression extended beyond the stage, providing them with a platform to let their own voices be heard.īut more than just a sound, punk rock had a look. Though the tough punk-rocker stereotype may bring to mind male artists like Johnny Rotten and Joey Ramone, women like Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, and Siouxsie Sioux stood at the helm of the movement, holding their own against their male counterparts. With the coolly delivered words “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine,” Patti Smith burst onto the music scene, shattering any pretense that she was just another “girl in a band.” This declaration, the opening line to her 1975 debut album, Horses, epitomized the subversive power that came to define punk rock. |
